Phu Bai Airport of Hue City closed from Mar to Nov 2013

Phu Bai Airport of Hue City closed from Mar to Nov 2013

Hello everyone, Please update news Phu Bai airport of Hue city in Central Vietnam will be closed from Mar to Nov 2013 for reconstruction. You can change into train/bus or arrive in Da Nang airport fro Vietnam Trip

=>> Cheers for that.
(I still have nightmares about Hue airport, I had a flight delayed for six hours. Vietnam airways tried to contact me to tell me about it but as I was on the move they could not locate me. Hue airport is not much bigger that a suburban London rail station. For entertainment they put on a loop tape it lasted 20 minutes. If I ever again, see that Tom and Jerry cartoon where Spike (the scary looking dog) tries to make his dream home kennel...)

=>> I can only agree.

In July this year Phu Bai airport was closed for hours - you couldn't even wait inside the buildings - by a rogue buffalo bull on the runway. Friend was due to fly out at 1 pm but she had to return to town from the closed airport at noon. She then waited until 8 pm and returned to the airport for a flight that finally left at 1 am.

Partly it is an airport problem. But it is the airlines who fail to notify of delays that drive me crazy. I have a VN Air gold card, have had the same mobile phone number for more than five years but am never notified of delays. Like my friend I find out about delays when I reach the airport.

Vietnam, Japan discuss traditional wooden architecture

Vietnam, Japan discuss traditional wooden architecture

Vietnamese and Japanese experts gathered for a workshop in the central city of Hue on November 12 to discuss traditional wooden architecture in the preservation of architectural relics in the former imperial city of Hue.

The workshop, the first of its kind, was jointly organised by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre (HMCC), the UNESCO World Heritage Institute at Japan’s Waseda University and the Japan Architects’ Association.

Participants said that traditional wooden architecture plays an important role in the Hue monument architectural system. They stressed that the thorough understanding of materials, manipulating methods, structures and factors that affect wooden architectural works is an important foundation for the conservation and restoration of relics.

Researchers discussed the traditional wooden architectures of Vietnam and Japan and their similarities.

The two sides shared experiences and proposed measures to conserve wooden architectural works, as the Hue relics are badly affected by global climate change.

Waseda University is coordinating with HMCC a study of the restoration of the war-torn Can Chanh Palace , which was the second largest - after Thai Hoa Palace - in the Imperial Palace.

The project is estimated to cost 10 million USD. Funded by official development assistance (ODA), construction is expected to be completed in five years.

Vietnam Airlines Economy Checked in baggage

Vietnam Airlines Economy Checked in baggage

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here can provide me with more information regarding checked in baggage with Sydney to Ho Chi Minh City flights with Vietnam Airlines.

I see on the website it says 30kg, but nowhere does it say from Australia that you can take 2 pieces that make up 30kgs. Obviously you cannot have 30kgs in one piece as the baggage handlers will refuse to carry a heavy load.

It only lists specifically for the USA to Ho Chi Minh flights. Can anyone shed some light on the baggage situation?

==>> My understanding it was 7kg carry-on and 23 kgs for stored luggage from Australia.

==>> You can send 30 kgs in one baggage from Australia to Viet Nam. I did so in May this year sending a 30 kg unaccompanied case from Canberra to Da Nang.

Plus my flight baggage must have been close to 30 kgs too. And I carried a laptop plus kindle plus camera etc all as cabin baggage. Neither flight was with VN Airlines.

Like the man says - phone them and ask.

Problems booking flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc

Hello,

I'm trying to book a flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc, and the websites I'm using are giving me trouble.

I've tried Vietnam Air and Air Mekong. I was able to find flights and enter my payment information, but at that point, on both websites, when I went to confirm the flight, I got an error message. This isn't a problem with my card; I know that for sure.

Has anyone else run into this problem with these two airlines? If so, how did you book your flights?

We need to book ahead of time because our hotel is requiring that we send them our flight information in order to book a room, so they know for sure we're coming.

I'm located in the United States, so if someone has a U.S. customer service phone number for these two airlines, or a toll-free 1-800 number, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm trying to avoid calling overseas on my cell phone or else I'll get a huge charge.

Thanks!

Noibai Airport Public Bus

Noibai Airport Public Bus in Hanoi Viet Nam

The Noibai airport is around 45 km (28 miles) and takes 35-40 minutes by taxi to the city center. Hanoi city buses number 7 and 17 connect Noi Bai Airport with Hanoi city center.

The bus stop is just on the right side of the terminal exit. Traveling by bus costs 5,000 VND (0.3 USD) per person and takes about one hour.

Bus number 7 connects the airport to Cai Giay bus station.

Bus number 17 connects the airport to Long Bien bus station,

However, we do not recommend as it is very crowded, moreover, you also need to transfer from bus station to your hotel.
